The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) is once again lending a helping hand to the family left behind by the fallen track and field legend Lyda de Vega.

The government funding agency had already extended assistance by covering part of De Vega's hospitalization upon orders from Malacañang.

But the PSC is again giving an unspecified amount to De Vega's loved ones.

De Vega passed away late Wednesday after a four-year battle with cancer.

Apart from the PSC, the Philippine Olympic Committee, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office and even fellow athlete EJ Obiena also made donations.

De Vega was back-to-back Asian Games champion in 1982 (New Delhi) and 1986 (Seoul).

She also won a total of 15 Southeast Asian Games gold medals from 1981 until 1993 and participated in two Olympic Games, 1984 in Los Angeles and 1988 in Seoul.

In 1994, she announced her retirement from the sport and later went into coaching in Singapore.
