Nonetheless, the 10-track album Joe & Mike Chan has an unmistakable cohesiveness characterized by romantic lyricism and a melodic style that shout to the world that here are the sons of OPM icon Jose Mari Chan.

In guesting at Tribune Now’s “Friday Mixer,” Joe and Mike prepared an even varied playlist — two from their album, namely, “From Now On” and the breezy “Seven Lakes Drive,” and covers of Simon and Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and “My Fair Share” of Seals & Croft.
They also played “Walking a Fine Line” dating back to 2014 when they led the four-man rock band Generation, a project that ended in 2017 and led to their transition into a more musically mature duo.

“Seven Lakes Drive,” composed by Joe, is a tribute to one of the most scenic drives in the United States, winding through Harriman State in New York and passing through seven bewitching lakes.
Conjuring images of pine trees and the seemingly endless park, the song tells of a man or a woman “waiting here at Seven Lakes Drive” most probably for a lover with whom to complete the road trip together.
Mike has cited Paul Simon, John Lennon, Cat Steven, James Taylor and Billy Joel as some of their musical heroes, but that their biggest influences remain to be their father Jose Mari and the latter’s own hero, the Beatles.
Of course, when it comes to music, the brothers Joe and Mike sing a tune all their own.
