The number of crimes in Pasig City has significantly decreased after more police personnel were deployed in the streets and public places, the Pasig City police said Sunday.

Crime rate in the city decreased by 26 percent from 19 cases in August to 5 or 6 cases to December, the period police presence was beefed up in the places of convergence, Pasig City police chief Col. Moises Villaceran Jr. said in an interview.

Villaceran, a former police chief of Mandaluyong City, assumed post as the new chief of police of Pasig City on 15 August 2019.

“Meron kami sinasabi na “Oplan Omni” kung saan naka-deploy ang ating kapulisan sa mga public places, sa places of convergence. It was effective kasi bumaba yun crime namin,” Villaceran said.

“Dati ang average crime is 19 per week, including shoplifting na po ‘yun, ngayon nagiging 5 or 6,” the Pasig police chief added.

Villaceran also noted that close coordination between law enforcers and business establishments would help solve crimes.

“Meron kami coordination sa mga malls and establishments na habang hindi pa na-commit yun crime, halimbawa suspected shoplifter ‘yan sitahin na o di kaya itawag sa pulis para respondehan namin. So nag-agree na kami, unlike dati na hinahayaan muna mag-commit yung crime,” Villaceran added.

Villaceran said that even administrative personnel were also deployed in the streets to help manage traffic, to coordinate with the people and to observe or be vigilant to prevent occurrence of crimes.

“May specific time lang na lalabas sila para lang makita ng community na tumulong sa places of convergence,” he said.
