Beijing, China — China’s swift development from a closed economy to a champion of free market mystified the global community especially in the western region.

During a 10-day stay in China, this writer learned more about their culture specifically in their approaches to develop their country that is summarized in three main points.

The Communist Party of China (CPC) has been at the core of thr country’s development. It has been established 98 years ago meaning it was organized 28 years before the People’s Republic of China (PRoC) has been established by former Chairman Mao Zedong.

The national party continued to thrive by implementing the socialist ideology with Chinese characteristics in the political and social organizations to keep the Chinese people in the right path to development.

This type of governance enabled China to generate $13.6 trillion in gross domestic product (GDP) in 2018 that makes up 16 percent of the global economy.

CPC also nurtured a system that guarantees national development by providing the needs of its people. The party, nonetheless, made clear that the country’s development will be based on a system that best fits the Chinese culture.

Creating deeper relations with other Asian countries also contributed to China’s growth through establishing common grounds while preserving mutual respect through so-called win-win cooperation deals with other countries through the Belt and Road Initiative and encouraging regional cooperation towards a shared future.

China established distinct kinds of cooperation with over 160 countries through President Xi Jinping’s flagship Belt and Road Cooperation which can play a very positive role in the economy of participants.

Jiang Jianhua from the International Department of the CPC Central Committee said while China builds different kinds of cooperation, it is not planning to interfere in foreign countries’ domestic matters debunking any allegations of colonization through the economic program.

“China and CPC never import our system nor we export our system and development. But the CPC supports other countries’ development path. It is fair to say that China’s development path has provided aspirations to other developing countries but we can only achieve success that will suit our own national condition,” he explained in a forum.

The central government has successfully laid out their plans throughout China as the administration has prepared short-term and long-term goals to increase its people’s standards of living through developing its own resources and labor force.

The Chinese government also extends efforts to balance urban and rural developments in certain areas to balance the migration and local developments across China.

People from rural areas were also granted the same opportunities such as those offered to their counterparts in China’s megacities, Beijing and Shanghai.

One example of which was the Sichuan province where urban developments and corporate investments were built at the center of the area but the agricultural lands were still preserved and used for food production and food security.

It’s capital, Chengdu, for example, is maintaining their sustainable way of living by using technology while boosting agriculture, preserving the environment and fostering urban development.

First-class hotels such as Shangri-La, Fairmont and Hilton were built at the capital of Sichuan province but just hours away from it were healthy lands where crops were traded to other parts of China.

The government is eyeing to build a park city and people can see the entire plan for the development in Chengdu Planning Exhibition Hall.

Developments include man-made lakes, irrigation framework, facilitation of international airports, and road projects in Chengdu.

The research base for nuclear technology was also built across the planning exhibition hall. Education was also prioritized in the city as students from different parts of China take undergraduate programs in the said province.

In this way of balancing, workers in companies and farmers can cohabitate in the same area where the government boosts investments in both private corporations and agriculture.

By these developments, the Chinese government can strengthen the fiscal capability of local government units in different regions.

This will also help China in achieving their goal to completely eradicate poverty by 2020 abiding by the standards of United Nations to build a more prosperous society.

China uses technology to be at par with Western countries that had long developed ahead of it by investing on research.

A visit to Huawei’s exhibition center in Beijing showed different apparatus used for telecommunications, security, education, data-gathering, and leisure.

For telecommunications, China is developing a 5G (fifth generation) ecosystem where high-speed Internet will be offered to the entire country.

Closed circuit televisions along the streets and in all areas are now being used for facial recognition for use as a tool in keeping peace and order.

Technology had also improved the education system. Huawei, specifically, is ramping up students’ performance and level of understanding by measuring these through the use of the technology.

Real-time data across the city or even the whole country can also be monitored through technology. They can measure the air quality, traffic and situations on the streets anytime in a room through the technology.

High-quality gadgets such as mobile phones also puts China ahead in their industrial development. Their latest product is a foldable phone with Leica lens, costing at least P70,000, with only a few units offered to the public.

Even China’s news agencies monitor real time statistics in social media engagements while working on their desks. Editors can see what are the trending stories in the news outlet and even the topics that have the most shares in different platforms.

China has formulated a unique system suitable for self-development. The Chinese government makes sure that social progress and economic prosperity in their nation will be the top priority.

Prioritizing provinces also helped them boost their fiscal capability through a holistic approach in their economic development.

Mr. Jianhua said Xi always reminds the public of the saying “If the shoe fits, wear it.” And that was one of the principles that they uphold to attain their current success.
