Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao Vice Mayor Akmad M. Ampatuan was wounded along with his escorts on Tuesday after gunmen aboard a motorcycle peppered their Toyota Innova with bullets along the national highway in Barangay Poblacion.
The father of Shariff Aguak Mayor Marop Ampatuan, Akmad and his bodyguards were fired upon at around 1 p.m. and were rushed to the Maguindanao provincial hospital after sustaining wounds from the shooting.
“Investigation is still going on,” the police said, who added Akmad and his men were later transferred to another hospital for their safety.
Members of the Ampatuan clan had been found guilty and sentenced to life in prison for the mass murder of journalists in the so-called Maguindanao massacre.
