SUBIC BAY FREEPORT—Team Philippines produced three gold medals and a bronze here after morning competitions of the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
In the rowing event at the Acea Subic Bay resort, Cris Nievarez dominated the men’s lightweight single sculls while the duo of Joanie Delgaco and Jen Caballero overpowered the competition in the women’s lightweight double sculls.
Nievarez logged a time of 7:34.27 to beat Thailand’s Siripong Chaiwichitchonkul (7:35.1) and Indonesia’s Kanan Kusmana (7:39.54).
Delgaco-Caballero clocked 7:24.21 as against Vietnam’s Hao Dinh Thi and Huyen Ta Thanh’s 7:27.65 and the 7:30.23 of Myanmar’s Latt Shwe Zin and Win Nilar.
Hermie Macaranas produced the third gold from the 200-meter men’s single category of the canoe event at Malawaan Park, finishing in 43.6 seconds to defeat Myanmar’s Win Myo Hlaing (43.75) and Vietnam’s Duong Anh Duc (44.33).

In modern pentathlon, Princess Arbilon and Michael Comaling settled for a bronze medal in the mixed relay event, yielding to Indonesia’s Putri Dea Salsabila and Harahap Frada Saleh and Thailand’s Aransiri Sanruthai and Kesornphrom Natthaphon.
