Gilas Pilipinas dominated in its first game, handing Singapore a 52-point beating, 110-58, in the 30th Southeast Asian Games at the Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday.

Troy Rosario led the way for Gilas off the bench as he finished with 15 points and eight rebounds. Vic Manuel and Stanley Pringle added 14 points apiece while June Mar Fajardo contributed 12 points and six rebounds.

“I think this team will get better, the more time we get together, the more games we play I think we’ll become a better team and we’ll be more coordinated with what we do.” said Philippine team coach Tim Cone.

“We wanna make sure that we’re respecting the game and that we’re playing the game the right way and that we are respecting out opponents. We didn’t see a lot of fooling around we already talked about that, we’re try the game the right way. That’s very important to us,” Cone added.

Gilas, which will next take on Vietnam on Friday, led from start to finish, jumping into a 48-28 lead in the first half.

With only 1:06 left in the game and the Philippines ahead 104-58, Manuel sparked a 6-0 run for the final score and the match’s biggest lead of 52 points.

“We want people going back to their respective homes and say ‘wow that team played with a lot of class’ so that’s really been in our minds,” Cone said.

Wei Mangleon Kwek scored 10 points to pace Singapore.
