The national women’s squad suffered a disastrous performance to bomb out of the women’s singles event in the bowling competition of the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games yesterday at the Coronado Lanes in Starmall.
Alexis Sy registered 1202 pinfalls to land on the 11th spot while Bea Hernandez collected 1100 pinfalls for a 17th place finish in this prestigious biennial tournament.
Veteran Liza del Rosario and Lara Posadas-Wong showed better performances as they tallied 234 and 227 pinfalls to emerge at eighth and 11th places, respectively.
They, however, failed to advance as Del Rosario tallied 1213 pinfalls to land on the eighth spot while Posadas-Wong had 1100 pinfalls to wind up the contest at the 18th spot.

Philippine Bowling Federation chairman Sen. Tito Sotto admitted that it wasn’t the kind of performance they were expecting from the Nationals.
“We were expecting at least a medal from our ladies. But probably, what happened was, I think, the opponents also prepared really well in the singles event,” said Sotto, who is a contemporary of legends like Bong Coo and Paeng Nepomuceno.
Sotto said the lack of adequate facilities has been hampering the sport.
“I just notice that, lately, other people can’t play bowling because it demands a higher cost compared when I, Paeng and Bong were still young,” he said.
“This is the reason why only a very limited number of people are trying to get into the sport.”
Sotto said they are planning to solve this problem by building a bowling complex at the New Clark City in Tarlac.
“We’re getting a one-hectare property at the New Clark City and we will be building a bowling complex there,” he said.
“It will be a 10-pin bowling complex that will be of international standards and world-class.”
“We will just let the SEA Games conclude and we’ll be sitting down with the concerned people and we will talk about the project.”
“We will look forward to more programs and development programs for our bowlers in the next few years.”
