The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) will proceed with its scheduled 12-hour shutdown, the aviation authorities reported Tuesday.
The shutdown which will start from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., is the airport’s safety measure against “destructive winds” brought by typhoon “Tisoy”.
It will affect around 480 landings and departures, both domestic and international.
“Minarapat namin na isara na lang, wag na makipag-patintero sa bagyo,” Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines Director General Jim Sydiongco said.
Sydiongco added that an extension is possible depending on the weather forecasts.

Once the airport reopens, regular flights will proceed until 1:30 a.m. Afterwards, runways will be used by airplanes returning from evacuation areas until 3:30 a.m., he said.
“Tisoy” is the 20th typhoon to enter the country this year.
It was last seen 55 km East of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro and is packing aaximum sustained winds of up to 150 km/h and gustiness of up to 205 km/h.
