Aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) company Lufthansa Technik Philippines (LTP_ is expecting to expand its service capacity by at least 20 percent with the construction of its $4-million hangar.
During a groundbreaking ceremony in Pasay City on Tuesday, LTP President and CEO Elmar Lutter said the new hangar, dubbed Hangar 1A, will be an exact replica of the existing Hangar 1.

“This new hangar will add at least 20 percent to our service capacity… This expansion will also add at least 10 percent of the company’s revenue,” Lutter told reporter, noting that the expansion project will particularly allow LTP to service more aircraft, including Airbus A380 aircraft, the world’s largest passenger airliner.
With a total area of 9,000 square meters, Lutter said the construction of Hangar 1A answers Asia-Pacific’s growing MRO demand and further strengthens Philippine’s position as an ideal aviation services hub in the region.
“Lufthansa has always been the country’s forerunner in the MRO industry. As we approach our 20th year, it’s about time we showcase the Philippines as an aviation stronghold in Asia-Pacific,” Lutter underscored.
The construction of Hangar 1A will mark the 10th bay in the MRO giant’s Manila site, which provides base and line maintenance to various commercial aircraft including Airbus A320, A330, A350, and A380, as well as Boeing B777.
According to Lutter, the expansion of its facilities and services, through the construction of Hangar 1A also will create 275 new job opportunities for Filipino workers.
“It will help the Philippine MRO industry grow, together with the sustained growth of the Philippine economy,” Lutter noted.
Established in 2000, LTP is a joint venture of Hamburg-based Lufthansa Technik AG and Philippines’ biggest aviation support service provider MacroAsia Corporation.
LTP is currently employing 3,300 Filipinos across the key cities nationwide, including Clark, Cebu, Davao, Kalibo, and Puerto Princesa.
