“Rody had indicated that he was not interested in pinning down political opponents or former officials of the previous regime during his remaining three years.

Recent comments of former President Noynoy Aquino on how the anti-narcotics campaign should be run are terribly off key as many are asking, “Pray tell, what happened during your watch?”

Noynoy took potshots at Rody’s decision not to give anti-drugs czarina Vice President Leni Robredo a Cabinet post since the President said she can’t be trusted.

The former President, who had a sordid record in peace and order, shot back saying he was confused over Rody’s designation of Robredo as co-chair of the Inter-Agency Committee Against Illegal Drugs if he does not trust her.

Then, apparently referring to himself, Noynoy preached that one would normally appoint a person that he or she trusts.

Noynoy had the gall to lecture Rody on the steps that he should take to propel the anti-drugs campaign when it was during his term that the problem had reached crisis proportions and nearly resulted in a narco state, which is not an overstatement.

In the recent campaign for senatorial seats, former Department of the Interior and Local Government secretary Raffy Alunan revealed that the US Drug Enforcement Agency informed him during his tenure that the Philippines was becoming a narco-state like Colombia and that narco-politics has set in.

He noted that most syndicates were Chinese triads from the mainland, Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong. The syndicates were known to have funded candidates and corrupting them when they get government positions.

For the entire six years that Noynoy was in power, the problem was ignored until it had reached the point of no return.

The “narco list” that Rody updates periodically showed police officers, local and national officials and even judges were part of the protection network of drug syndicates.

Rody’s war on drugs has resulted in the biggest fish caught, thus far, in the narcotics trade who was then Justice secretary and now Sen. Leila de Lima. A bigger catch is expected since somebody higher than De Lima had called the shots in the exploitation of drug trafficking for political gains during Noynoy’s term.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) had issued several reports about the kingpins in the narcotics trade that Noynoy conveniently ignored.

He was fully aware of the “list of narco-politicians” Rody now uses as reference since the PDEA drafted the list way back in 2013.

The whole government structure was involved in the wide coverup during the term of Noynoy as even retired Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales refused to probe De Lima.

Morales, who was the priestess of selective justice under Noynoy, said when asked about an Ombudsman probe on De Lima that it was “not going to happen,” despite serious allegations raised during the House hearing on the drugs trade inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) that Leila orchestrated the narcotics business using convicts.

Morales’ excuse was that all the revelations against De Lima were “mere allegations and there is no lead that would prompt” an investigation to be initiated.

On several occasions, big guns of the Liberal Party were cited and implicated during the probe on the NBP drugs factory.

Former Justice secretary Vitaliano Aguirre was investigating persons “higher than De Lima” in the NBP drugs network.

Rody had indicated, however, that he was not interested in pinning down political opponents or former officials of the previous regime during his remaining three years, which will be focused on ending the drugs menace.

Noynoy in seeing the tree rather than the forest should have realized that appointing an opposition leader to a flagship government program did not happen under his lackluster term.

Rody said he would accept help from all corners and without partisan influence just to complete his task of restoring public order by ending the drugs menace.

Thus far, Robredo is failing Rody on that front.

Noynoy, with the vindictive blood flowing through him, is oblivious to such reality.
