BAGUIO CITY — The Department of Public Works and Highways-Baguio City District Engineering Office (DPWH-BCDEO) announced that the re-blocking project along Marcos Highway is now complete, done in record-breaking time against the original timeline of 45 days set by the department.
The P7.7-million project was started on 4 November and originally scheduled for completion by 21 December 2019, but was already completed yesterday to allow both lanes to be passable to motorists.
BCDEO construction division head and Marcos Highway re-blocking project manager Alfredo Bannagao Jr. said the immediate completion within 13 calendar days was made possible as the agency urged contractor Goldrich Construction to speed up the road works given that the temporary closure of lanes would definitely contribute to traffic congestion.
Vegetable traders have also lamented that should the project lag behind in completion, possible waste of goods and loss of business would be impending given that December is the peak season for vegetable deliveries and their produce would spoil if not transported or sold immediately.
Bannagao disclosed that the contractor worked round-the-clock and made use of quick-dry concrete mix to ensure the speedy completion of the project, which repaired two sections of Marcos Highway including the 549-meter stretch from the boundary of Tuba up to the Cordillera office of the National Meat Inspection Service and the 126-meter portion in front of the Bakakeng Central basketball court up to its junction with Kitma road.
