Elizabeth Yu Gokongwei, the widow of the late tycoon John Gokongwei Jr., died on Saturday, just a week after her husband’s passing, their son, Lance Gokongwei, announced in a Facebook post.
Mrs. Gokongwei was 85; her husband 93. They are survived by six children.
The Gokongwei couple was married for 61 years.

“The Gokongwei matriarch was the other half who helped in realizing the vision and dream of one of the greatest business leaders of our time. She fully supported the conviction of the businessman who dared,” Panelo said in a statement.
“Mrs. Elizabeth, like Mr. John, was known for her philanthropy, being a member of the Board of Trustees of the Gokongwei Brothers Foundation. She was, in the words of only son, Lance, the heart and soul of the Gokongwei family.”
