Pope appoints Cebu bishop to Vatican council

Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma was appointed as one of the new members of the Pontifical Council for Culture by Pope Francis, the CBCP News reported.
The 69-year-old Palma will work with the dicastery led by biblical scholar and Italian Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi.
The former president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines is the only Asian among the eight new members of the council composed mostly of Europeans.
The Pontifical Council for Culture was established in 1982 to establish dialogues between Church and the cultures of modern times.
It touches on important areas of society, science, arts, economy and the value and care of artistic and historic patrimony of the Church.
The Archdiocese of Cebu is the largest archdiocese in the Philippines since 2011.
