The wreck of U.S. Navy submarine USS Grayback that was sunk by a Japanese fighter jet in the East China Sea during World War 2 has been found.
World War 2 submarine searcher group Lost 52 Project announced on Sunday it found the submarine on 5 June 1,700 feet deep off Okinawa, Japan.
The Grayback and remains of its 80 crew members could not be found for 75 years as the US Navy’s translated Japanese war records indicating its last location had a wrong digit on its coordinates.
A Japanese researcher discovered the error last year by comparing the Japanese radio report of the sinking on 27 February 1944 to the US historical record.
