The self-righteous critics of President Rody Duterte are out in full force in shielding Vice President Leni Robredo who seems to have hibernated amid Rody’s “take it or leave it” offer for her to take charge of the anti-narcotics campaign.

Robredo’s handlers said she is in the United States for a “long-planned” family trip just as when everybody was waiting for her reply to Rody’s proposition.

In her stead were her apologists who issued statements as inane as what would have come from the chief detractor herself.

In a television guesting, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) director general Aaron Aquino made an honest assessment of Robredo, saying she would likely fail if she takes on Rody’s offer as anti-drugs czar.

The PDEA chief noted the Vice President’s lack of experience in handling drugs cases or keeping public order, for that matter.

Robredo’s defenders gave a different view. Acolyte Sen. Risa Hontiveros said on the contrary, the VP could do a “much better job” than Rody.

She bared Robredo’s likely agenda as the anti-drugs campaign overseer which is a “public health approach with harm reduction, rules-based law enforcement and judicial reform.”

The approach is equated with the Western imposition of treating narcotics dependence as a health problem instead of a crime that Rody had repeatedly indicated is not applicable to the country.

Her mouthpiece Barry Gutierrez said the PDEA chief’s comment only bared Rody’s offer as insincere.

The fact, however, is that Aquino was merely voicing his concern that Robredo may just exploit the flagship campaign of the President for her own political gain and may result in the regression of the program which is almost won if not for the cheap shots dished out by the yellow mobsters.

The Palace said the offer is serious and Rody would give her an instant Cabinet position once she accepts the offer that would have her exercising blanket authority over the anti-narcotics campaign.

The PDEA chief said that if that comes to pass, they would have no choice but to comply though it may be at the risk of the whole program falling apart.

For instance, Aquino explained that Robredo may have good intentions but she is not grounded on the “supply reduction efforts while she also lacks experience in dealing and working with law enforcers.”

Frightening is her proposed solution which would roll back the gains of the war on drugs.

The offer of Rody was for her to take it if she can hack it but, obviously, she can’t.
