Go fetes Petecio, Yulo

Nesthy’s triumph is also the nation’s triumph.

Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go filed two separate resolutions commending boxer Nesthy Petecio and gymnast Carlos Yulo following their respective victories in world events last month.

Go, the chairman of Senate Committee on Sports, filed Senate Resolution 192 last Monday, saying that Petecio “had proven time and time again that the unrelenting spirit, determination and competitiveness of Filipino athletes should be truly commended and emulated.”

Petecio ruled the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championship in Ulan-Ude, Russia, giving her a handsome chance at making the Tokyo Olympics next year.

“Nesthy Petecio, who hails from Davao del Sur, defeated her opponent and ruled the division. She is now the second Filipina who bagged a gold medal from the competition,” said Go, an avid sports enthusiast who once served as head of delegation of Gilas Pilipinas in the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifier.

“Nesthy’s triumph is also the nation’s triumph and an inspiration to many young Filipinos aspiring to be national athletes, most especially in boxing.”

On the same note, Go also praised Yulo after becoming the first Filipino to capture a gold medal the world gymnastics meet after emerging victorious in the 49th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany.

“The 12th of October 2019 will forever remain a momentous date in Philippine sporting history,” he said.

“On that day, the Philippine national anthem was played at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships for the first time after our very own gymnast, Carlos Edriel Yulo, captured our first-ever gold medal in the men’s floor exercise in the history of the prestigious sporting competition.”

“This triumph by Mr. Yulo is nothing short of an extraordinary achievement by a Filipino athlete well deserving of recognition and praise from this esteemed chamber.”

In Senate Resolution 190 commending Yulo, the Senator said “the triumphant feat made allowed him to qualify and compete at the world’s grandest sporting event, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.”

Go also said that the victories of the Filipino athletes serve “as an inspiration to all Filipino athletes and aspiring athletes to pursue their passion for sports and excel in it.”

“May your recognition also serve as a reminder to our athletes that they have the government and the entire Filipino nation rooting for them each time they compete in the world stage,” he said.
