Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso has ordered an investigation into the reported death of a mother and her child who expired due to complications after being transferred to Sta. Ana Hospital (SAH) from Ospital ng Sampaloc (OSam).
The mayor appealed to expecting mothers to avail of prenatal checkups available in health centers and take good care of themselves.
“We have health centers and hospitals that offer free checkups and vitamins, Do not disregard your pregnancy for the child’s condition should be checked from time to time. It’s difficult if you will just go to the doctor when it is time for you to give birth,” Domagoso said.
In an interview, Dr. Aileen Lacsamana, OSam hospital director, said when the mother arrived to give birth, her baby no longer had a heartbeat and her case was deemed too complicated for a primary facility. On the other hand, SAH is a tertiary hospital capable of handling the case.
Although the patient was stable to go on her own, Lacsamana said she was taken to SAH by ambulance.
