The family of slain Clarin Mayor David Navarro on Sunday asked why not one from a police convoy that escorted him for inquest fired back at his assailants numbering about 10 from a van that cut into their path.
“How could it have happened? He was arrested without warrant, detained without charge, in police custody and under escort ambushed, but the only one singled out and executed without the escorts even firing a single return fire? How could that have happened?” asked the mayor’s sister Princess Navarro.
David Navarro was shot dead in an ambush in Cebu City at past 2 p.m. of 25 October as he was being brought to the prosecutor’s office to face charges of asking sexual favors from a massage therapist and punching another.
Central Visayas police chief Brig. Gen. Valeriano de Leon said the cops, including Navarro’s own men, were not able to fire back because the ambush happened so fast.”
Cebu City Police chief Police Colonel Gemma Vinluan said that Navarro was even wearing a bullet proof vest but according to his sister he was shot in the head.
