PANDESAL Month is also Kamuning Bakery Cafe’s thanksgiving for the public’s continuous patronage.

As part of the month-long celebration of Pandesal Month, Kamuning Bakery Café is inviting the public on 27 October, Sunday, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., for free medical, dental and optical missions at Judge Jimenez Street corner K-1st Street, Barangay Kamuning, Quezon City.

This civic project is in partnership with Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce & Industry Inc. (FFCCCII) led by its president Dr. Henry Lim Bon Liong and the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors Inc. led by its president Ian Fariñas.

Two successful events were recently held at the 80-year-old Kamuning Bakery Café, the first one being the free medical, dental and optical mission on 6 October with partner Chinese General Hospital & Medical Center led by its president Dr. James G. Dy, who is also known as the founder of Universal Records and Dyna Records.

Pandesal Month’s highlight was the successful 5th World Pandesal Day on 16 October, when Kamuning Bakery Café led by owner Wilson Lee Flores gave away 70,000 pandesal breads and other food to the public with special guests Senator Cynthia Villar, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, Regal Films founder Mother Lily Monteverde, Santa Klaws and 80-year-old Joaquin Roces Jr. (grandson of Kamuning Bakery Café’s first “suki” or loyal customer pre-war media tycoon and Quezon City co-founder Alejandro Roces, also eldest son of “suki” newspaper publisher/activist Joaquin “Chino” Roces).

President Rodrigo Duterte, Sen. Manny Pacquiao, former Senate President Manuel “Manny” B. Villar, Sen. Bong Go, GMA Network Inc. chairman Atty. Felipe Gozon and others sent messages of support for this project.

Other Kamuning Bakery Café’s partners for the fifth #WorldPandesalDay include the Chinese General Hospital, Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce & Industry Inc. (FFCCCII), San Miguel Mills, Philippine Foremost Milling Corp., Eden Cheese, Mega Sardines, Doña Maria rice, Good Life noodles, Hobe noodles, Lily’s Peanut Butter, Clara Ole fruit jams, King Sue ham, Caltex Iba Malhacan Meycauayan Exit and Cathedral Cargo Movers Trucking.

“World Pandesal Day” is a unique civic and cultural project which hopes to honor the humble yet great Filipino bread pandesal and highlight need to solve age-old problems of hunger and poverty.

It is also Kamuning Bakery Cafe’s thanksgiving for continuous public patronage since 1939, despite rise of giant bread factories and many modern bakery chains, also despite a destructive 2018 fire which heavily damaged it.

Realty entrepreneur and writer Wilson Lee Flores said although Kamuning Bakery Café is just a small business which he bought and revived four years ago, he was inspired to start “World Pandesal Day” charities due to the Bible story of a humble boy who shared five loaves of breads and two fishes, which Jesus Christ multiplied to feed over 5,000 men plus many women and children.

World Bread Day is also celebrated on 16 October.
