Several local government units (LGU) suspended classes for Thursday, 17 October following a 6.3 magnitude earthquake that hit North Cotabato and neaby areas Wednesday evening.
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte shared it was her first time to experience a quake that lasted long.
She announced the suspension of classes and ordered the inspection of establishments around the city to ensure the safety of the public.
“The 6.3 magnitude earthquake, which happened at 7:48 tonight, may have caused structural and electrical damage to buildings and houses. All school owners, teachers, and other school personnel are hereby instructed to subject school structures to a safety inspection with a qualified engineer tomorrow. If they find building defects that are dangerous and need repair, they should immediately condemn the area and not allow students to use the same,” the younger Duterte said in a statement.
