Eight suspects in the robbery of a Mandaue City mall in Cebu Saturday evening were arrested in Bogo City Sunday but four of them were killed when they allegedly grabbed the firearms of police officers accosting them.
Bogo City police and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel inspected the ferry vessel MV Maria Helena bound for Cataingan, Masbate at the Polambato wharf and initially found four of the robbers onboard.
Arrested were Kevin Plaza Andales, 25 of Lorenzotan, Tangub City, Misamis Occidental; Wilfredo Suerte Enguito, 47; Philip Taborada; and Glen Tairos.

About 12:55 in the morning Sunday, Mandaue City Police operatives arrived at the Pulambato wharf and coordinated with PCG to conduct another inspection which resulted into the arrest of four more suspects together with their in the robbery.
Arrested were: Roel Nano Sumingit, 35, of Tangub City; Jun Batanguso Candelaria, 38, of Naga City; Arnel Sumingit Cimafranca, 38, of Tangub City and an unknown male suspect.
Evidences recovered from the suspects were one beige Toyota Innova with plate number ZRM 486, three motorcycles, tools, cash, cellular phones, a caliber .38 revolver and assorted clothes.
Police are still checking on the jewelries and cash they stole from the four shops inside the mall, including a jewelry store and money changers.
Mandaue city mayor Jonas Cortes commended police for the quick arrest of the robbery suspects.
“We commend the quick actions of the PNP in apprehending the perpetrators of last Saturday’s incident. We will call a meeting of the City Peace and Order Council to assess the security situation of the City,” Cortes said.
The mayor added, “We will request J Centre Mall to fully cooperate with authorities, to encourage all establishments to beef up security measures as well as to come up with an evacuation plan if ever situations such as this arise.”
