The Department of Energy’s (DoE) Task Force on Energy Resiliency (TFER) are now checking energy infrastructure in several areas in Mindanao hit by a 6.3 magnitude earthquake at around 7:37 p.m. Wednesday.

In a statement, the TFER said that as of 10:35 p.m., a total of six line feeder trippings were reported while the Distribution Utilities and Electric Cooperatives reported power interruptions at SOCOTECO-1, SOCOTECO-2, COTELCO, DASURECO, DANECO, DORECO and DLPC.

The affected areas are parts of South Cotabato (Koronadal, Tampakan, Tupi, T’boli, Surallah, Banga, Lutayan, Tantangan, Norala, Sto. Nino, Lake Sebu), Davao Del Sur (Digos City, Hogonoy, Padada, Kiblawan, Sulop, Malalag, Sta. Cruz), portions of Kidapawan City, Davao City, Davao del Norte and Davao Oriental.

“The Department of Energy assures the public of updates on the matter,” said the TFER.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the earthquake, which is tectonic in origin, was felt the most in North Cotabato, with Intensity VII recorded in Kidapawan City.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) said that while there are no material damage to the facilities in the Port of General Santos, it has placed the Port of Gensan/Makar wharf on lockdown.

“We are making sure that all persons are safe and that the integrity of structures are ascertained first,” said PPA general manager Jay Santiago. “Operations are suspended until tomorrow morning to give way to a thorough inspection of all structures inside the port.”
