Natural gas is sourced from the Malampaya natural gas field whose output is set to plummet to a third of its current capacity by 2024.
Production of the country’s natural gas hit 96,472 million standard cubic feet (MMcf) as of end-September 2019, according to latest data from the Department of Energy (DoE).
The DoE said that the figure brought the total natural gas output since 1994 to 2.19 billion standard cubic feet (Bcf).
Of that produced as of last month, 90,760 MMcf was used to bolster the country’s power generation. Some 1,567 MMcf was used by the industrial sector while the transportation industry consumed none of the production.
Meanwhile, the DoE said that of the 2.19 Bcf produced over 25 years, a total of 2.1 billion Bcf has been consumed, with the power sector still the highest consumer with 2.07 Bcf, followed by the industrial sector with 38,046 MMcf, and transportation with 184 MMcf.

At present, Malampaya produces 3,400 megawatts (MW) of power but expected to decline to only 1,000 MW by 2024.
