Global Arts Phl grand champions named

This competition was a channel where through which young artists and their teachers are motivated to practice more, learn more and be better than they are, year after year.

A total of 278 aspiring Picassos, little Da Vincis, Amorsolos, Manansalas and Michaelangelos with a single dream gathered together at the recently concluded Global Art Philippines National Art Competition 2019 held at the SMX Convention Center in SM Aura, Taguig City.

Seven were adjudged grand champions, automatically earning a spot as Philippine representatives to the Global Arts International Level Competition to be held in Singapore on 1 December.

Participants are current students of Global Art Philippines and are the best among Global Art branches in Ortigas, San Juan, Del Monte-Quezon City, Makati, Serendra, Alabang, Binondo, Ycaza-Manila, Fun Ranch-Pasig, New Manila, Pampanga, Cebu, Davao and General Santos City.

“This year’s theme was ‘My Appreciation’ because we wanted our young artists to translate into visual art their appreciation of God, their family, friends, nature, technology and the quality of their lives in general,” Yenny Saw, Global Arts Philippines country manager, said.

The competition had two major categories based on the genre or the medium used: Creative Drawing and Painting.

The winners in Creative Drawing, Category A (four to six years old) are Daphne Elizabeth Dira (grand champion, Makati); Samantha Therese Cristobal (first runner-up, Ortigas); Kotaro Irie (second runner-up, Serendra). Category B (seven to nine years old) are Judy Kwag (grand champion, Cebu); Esther Noche (first runner-up, Davao) and Alyssa Lim (second runner-up, Makati); while Category C (10 to 12 years old) are Ervin Cedric Uy (grand champion, Del Monte); Dave Sia (first runner-up, Cebu); and Ceana Blair Ramirez (third runner-up).

Category D (13 to 18 years old) winners are Priya Nelly Atheena Tan (grand champion, Manila); Julianne Chuah (first runner-up, Manila) and Ralph Yap (second runner-up, Cebu).

Meawhile, the following were declared winners in the Acrylic Painting Category: Category 1 (seven to nine years old) Keana Nicolle Jiang (grand champion, Pampanga); Ace Gabriel Choa (first runner-up, Ortigas); and Chantalle May Go (second runner-up, Davao); Category 2 (10 to 12 years old) are Julia Gabrielle San Juan (grand champion, Makati); Julia Madison Gutierrez (first runner-up, Makati); and Alyssa Denise Cam (second runner-up, Davao); Category 3 (13 to 18 years old) are Roland Jude Gellang (grand champion, General Santos); Dominique Kiersten Lim (first runner-up, Makati) and Meryl Fiona Miranda (second runner-up, General Santos).

“We believe that our students need a goal or a purpose to work on lest they do art out of routine, then wane in their passion after a while. This competition was a channel where through which young artists and their teachers are motivated to practice more, learn more and be better than they are, year after year,” Saw shared. “While the event teaches students determination and independence, it is also during healthy competitions like this that students’ horizons are broadened.”

A company founded in Malaysia in 1999 by Mahair Goh, Global Art teaches children not only how to copy a drawing but to create their own artwork, design and interpretation through different techniques.
