Partial LRT-2 run eyed Monday

The Light Rail Transit-2 (LRT-2) is eyeing partial operations on Monday, 7 October.
Degraded run from Cubao, Quezon City to Recto, Manila and back, depending on the availability of spare parts ordered from the United Kingdom, may be implemented.
Lawyer Hernando Cabrera, LRT-2 spokesperson, said it will take about nine months before full operations, that will include Katipunan, Anonas and Santolan stations, will resume.
Severe damage between Katipunan and Anonas stations was incurred after power transformers exploded at about 11:30 a.m. on Thursday.
“Test runs and safety checks of all equipment and facilities such as signaling, communications, power and trains should be completed before we can partially operate,” LRTA administrator Gen. Reynaldo Berroya said.
Berroya also appealed for understanding and patience from the riding public and assured that the LRT Authority is exhausting all efforts to fast-track the repair and upgrade of the system.
Agencies like the Metro Manila Development Authority and Philippine Coast Guard deployed buses Friday to help augment transportation shortage in the affected LRT-2 routes.
An estimated 200,000 passengers take the LRT-2 daily.
