Mayor Roderick Alcala and Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) chief Arnulfo Cabling led the groundbreaking ceremony for the five-story tenement building in Barangay Marketview in Lucena City on Thursday.
Alcala said the tenement will house 625 indigent families, each to be given a 23-square meter floor area with a minimal monthly amortization.
He said families living in high-risk areas such as riverbanks are prioritized in this joint project of the city government and SHFC that is being funded with close to P300 million.
Alcala said the project, the first in Calabarzon region, is in response to requests received by his office by families who lack decent shelter.
