The spokesman of the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) on Friday revealed that the LRT-2 will lose around P1.5 million after authorities closed three of its train stops — namely the Santolan, Katipunan and Anonas stations.

In a television interview, Cabrera said that for loss of income, the LRTA is incurring around P3.2 million every day for the whole line stoppage but stressed that as soon as they start partial operations, the losses would go down around P1.5 million daily.

To recall, the LRTA closed the three stations for nine months after fire hit one of the transit line’s power transformers Thursday which halted its operations and forced thousands of passengers to find alternative modes of transport in an already congested metropolis.

Cabrera said repairs would take long because parts needed are located overseas.

“Most of the major components of the damaged system come from abroad, specifically the UK, France and Japan. We have to follow some procurement process, though we have already initiated what we can an emergency procurement procedure,” said Cabrera.

“We have to take into consideration the fact that the items that we would be requiring are not off-the-shelf items. They will have to be customized for our system. So this will take time,” he added.
