Light Rail Transit-2 (LRT-2) temporarily suspended operations shortly before noon Thursday after a loud explosion was heard, followed by a thick smoke, at the Katipunan station in Quezon City.
Lawyer Hernando Cabrera, LRT-2 spokesperson, said only the Katipunan and Anonas stations are affected by the power cut but management decided to stop the run of the entire line.
“We are conducting investigation and intervention so we must stop the entire line. We apologize for the inconvenience,” Cabrera said.
Passengers reported on social media that they heard the explosion at around 11:24 a.m. They were immediately ordered out of the Katipunan station. No one was reported hurt.
The LRT-2 line runs from Santolan in Pasig to Recto Avenue in Manila.
The LRT-1 earlier closed its Balintawak and Roosevelt stations due to mechanical issues.
