The fire that engulfed Star City may be a case of arson, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said Wednesday.

Fire Marshall Supt. Paul Pili said the unusual fire pattern and the swift duration caused the suspicion.

The fire broke out 12:31 a.m. Wednesday and it took only one hour for the fire to raze 80 percent of the amusement park located inside the Philippine International Convention Center Complex in Pasay City.

“From my experience, it was a fire of a different kind. Dapat, habang lumalayo mas umiitim tapos nagiging abo. Ito hindi eh, abo tapos biglang hindi tapos abo ulit,” Pili told reporters.

Pili added the BFP is also investigating a cryptic message via Twitter received by ballerina Lisa Macuja, wife of Manila Broadcasting Company and Star City owner Fred Elizalde, saying “Star City will die.”

The fire is already under control but can still be seen emanating from adjacent MBC building which was likewise affected.

Macuja’s Ballet City Manila often performs at the Aliw Theater, also housed inside the MBC building along with four radio stations which will continue airing despite the incident.

MBC vice president for Human Resources Ellen Fullido said they are looking for a temporary office.

Only DZRH TV, the live streaming arm of the FM station, will temporarily stop its broadcast.
