Newly-installed Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Noel Clement, has appointed a new Philippine Military Academy (PMA) superintendent and commandant of cadets following the resignation of its officials this week over the death of a cadet from hazing.
In a press briefing at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City, Clement said the incoming PMA Superintendent is Rear Admiral Allan Ferdinand V. Cusi, the former Vice Commander of the Philippine Navy and commander of the Naval Education Training and Doctrines Command.
Clement said Cusi, who replaces Lt. Gen. Ronnie Evangelista as PMA superintendent, assumes his post on 1 October 2019.

Meanwhile, former chief of the Army’s 103rd Brigade in Marawi City, Brig. Gen. Romeo Brawner, will replace Brig. Gen. Bartolome Vicente Baccaro as the new Commandant of Cadets.
Brawner was formally installed to his new post at 5 p.m. Thursday, 26 September.
Clement both praised Evangelista and Baccaro for both relinquishing their positions for “command responsibility.”
“They are both excellent officers in their fields, but in their own words, they somehow failed as the incident happened despite their diligent efforts,” Clement said.
To further remedy the situation, Clement said he has ordered the further inquiry by the Inspector General, Lt. Gen. Antonio Ramon Lim, on the systems and processes that are currently in place in PMA and make appropriate recommendations as may be necessary especially on matters concerning cadet training
“Part of the team has begun their task since yesterday,” Clement said.
“The earlier we get to put matters back in order the better it is for the Cadet Corps and PMA,” he added.
Meanwhile, Clement said the designated officer-n-charge of the PMA Station Hospital is Lt. Col. Nerio Zabala.
Clement reiterated that there will be no white-wash or cover-up in the investigation of the fatal hazing.
