Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte- Carpio was adopted daughter of the province of Tawi-tawi on Tuesday as thousands of residents clapped in approval.
“You are now officially a daughter of the province,” Tawi-tawi Gov. Yshmael “Mang” Sali declared, presenting the Davao mayor a copy of a provincial board resolution that was unanimously passed.

Mayor Sara graced the 46th Kamahardikaan sin Tawi-Tawi Tuesdsay as guest speaker in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi.
At the airport, she was welcomed by the governor, board members and the municipal mayors of the province.
She proceeded to the Amirbhar Convention Center where she met with children and their mothers in a gift giving program.
She distributed red school bags which contained school supplies and food packs to the children and sling bags for the mothers.
“I am grateful to Gov. Mang Sali for inviting me to the Kamahardikaan sin Tawi-Tawi,” Duterte-Carpio said. “I am happy that my friend Atty. Jet Lim, is now Board Member of Tawi-Tawi.”
“To the children, I urge you to study well, so that you will finish schooling and graduate in college,” she said.
She advised the children to listen to their teachers while in school and to their mothers while at home.
She reminded the mothers to, “practice family planning,” and persuaded them to guide their families to a better future. “This will create a huge impact to community development.”
During her visit to Tawi-Tawi, the 1st Lepa Festival was launched in time for the Kamahardikaan sin Tawi-Tawi.
Seventy decorated Lepas (traditional Badjao houseboats) were on display in a fluvial parade along Bongao Bay.
In a short program, Gov. Mang Sali thanked Mayor Sara for gracing the event despite her busy schedule.
The provincial resolution declaring Mayor Sara as adopted daughter of Tawi-Tawi was in recognition of her love and support to the province.
