Ranking officials of the Philippine Superliga (PSL) and Premier Volleyball League (PVL) sat down to discuss the possibility of coming up with a national tournament that would definitely spark unity in Philippine volleyball.
Sportsman Raffy Villavicencio brokered a meeting between PSL chairman Philip Ella Juico, PSL president Ian Laurel and PVL president Ricky Palou yesterday to kick off the creation of a tournament that would unite two of the biggest women’s club leagues in the country.
Nothing concrete has been discussed, but initial talks have it that the tourney will begin in July next year and would feature both reinforced and all-Filipino conferences.
Petron is the reigning champion in the PSL Grand Prix while F2 Logistics ruled the All-Filipino Conference.
On the other hand, PetroGazz ruled the PVL Reinforced Conference while Creamline dominated the PVL All-Filipino Conference.

Should a Grand Prix format among champion teams would be used, it’s going to be interesting seeing the likes of Mika Reyes, Denden Lazaro, Aiza Maizo-Pontillas and Rhea Dimaculangan of Petron go up against Alyssa Valdez, Michele Gumabao, Melissa Gohing and Pau Soriano of Creamline while Kim Fajardo, Aby Marano, Kalei Mau and Majoy Baron of F2 Logistics would go up against Cherry Nunag, Stephanie Mercado, Jessey de Leon and PetroGazz.
“Both teams have agreed in principle to work toward this,” said Joey Guillermo, who will oversee the competition as tournament director.
“It will be a national tournament for volleyball to determine the best club in the country.”
Juico, also the Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association president, said they are very much open to cooperate and lay down the rivalry that has been hounding Philippine volleyball for the past five years to rest.
