St. Luke's Global City in Taguig opened its doors to the public in 2010.

The St. Luke’s Medical Center Bonifacio Global City Employees Union–Independent filed a notice of strike on Thursday after management allegedly disregarded an order from the Department of Labor and Employment to hold a Certification Election (CE) to determine the rightful representative of the employees in their collective bargaining negotiations.

The DOLE, through med-arbiter Joel Petaca, issued the order on 22 July but it was challenged by the incumbent union affiliated with the Alliance of Filipino Workers (AFW) labor federation. The case is still pending as of posting time.

“Our right to democratically elect a union that shall represent our interests as employees has been violated by our very own employers when they chose to negotiate with the representatives of AFW despite being prohibited by labor laws,” Sherwin Moscosa, president of the Taguig hospital’s independent union, said in a statement.

Moscosa cited Article 256 of the Labor Code that deems it unlawful for AFW and hospital management to conduct negotiations when there is a legitimate petition to question the majority status of the incumbent bargaining agent.
