The 58 pig carcasses recovered from the Marikina River have yet to test positive for African Swine Fever (ASF).
Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro said the Department of Agriculture (DA) confirmed that the dead pigs were dumped upstream in Rizal and are still being tested.
“Kumuha kami ng water sample kasi the river system in Marikina can support aquatic life,” Teodoro said. “We believe it is contaminated because of the carcasses dumped in the river.”
Fishing and other water-related activities in the river are temporarily banned for safety precautions.
