What ‘LolaIgna’ wants

Ferro now feels the picture deserves to be shown in more screens. “It will be bad if it isn’t screened in more theaters,” says the actress.

Angie Ferro, who won Best Actress at age 82, was overwhelmed by her win and made an appeal while accepting her speech.

Lola Igna took home the bulk of trophies at the awards night for the 2019 Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (PPP) Sunday. Directed by Eduardo Roy Jr., it won Best Picture and also took home the awards for Best Musical Score and Best Screenplay.

Ferro feels the winning film deserves to be shown in more theaters. “It will be bad if it isn’t screened in more theaters,” says the actress.

She added, “Please watch it. You won’t regret if you did. Let’s watch all the films.”

The senior actress bested much younger ones in contention for the award — Anita Linda (Circa), Sue Ramirez (Cuddle Weather), Arci Muñoz (Open) and Jean Garcia (Watch Me Kill).

Meanwhile, Martin del Rosario was declared Best Actor for his role in The Panti Sisters, beating co-stars Paolo Ballesteros and Christian Bables. Also, he went past Khalil Ramos (LSS: Last Song Syndrome) and McCoy de Leon (G!).

Gio Alvarez won Best Supporting Actor (but wasn’t around to receive the trophy). The other nominees included John Arcilla (The Panti Sisters), Vance Larena (Open), Jameson Blake (G!) and Rodolfo Muyuela (Watch Me Kill).

Tyrone Acierto picked up the honors for Best Cinematography (Watch Me Kill) and Colorad Rutledge for Best Editing for the same film.

LSS (Last Song Syndrome) won Best Original Song and Best Sound Design, the Pistapp Audience Choice Award and the Special Jury Award.

Tuesday Vargas was also named Best Supporting Actress for her role in LSS.

She reigned over other contenders: Ina Raymundo (Open), Nova Villa (I’m Ellenya L.), Jaclyn Jose (Circa) and Maria Isabel Lopez (Lola Igna).

The twosome was specifically handpicked — even before they went public about their relationship — by producers because of their obvious musical inclination.

LSS tells the story of Sarah (Gabbi Garcia) and Zack (Khalil Ramos), as they enter adulthood. Sarah dreams of making it big on the music scene but somehow circumstances prevent her from realizing her full potential.

Zack, on the other hand, yearns for a girl who is in love with someone else.

How these two people coming from different backgrounds connect and find each other is one of LSS’ charms, not to mention the songs guaranteed to make you sing them over and over again (literally experience the last song syndrome).

As they struggle to the challenges of adulthood and several near encounters while following their favorite band, Ben&Ben, Sarah and lack finally meet and that fateful event and how a single unforgettable song changed their lives forever.

MARTIN del Rosario churned in a convincing performance of a K-Pop loving gay in “The Panti Sisters” which also top-bills Paolo Ballesteros and Christian Bables. The three starred in the cult popular “Beautiful” series. Del Rosario won the coveted Best Actor Plum.

“We all can relate to the story of LSS. Like the lead stars, we all dream to succeed in our chosen paths. Hopefully, we can have someone like Sarah Zack to inspire us and overcome the struggles to make our goals a reality,” Quark Henares, head of Globe Studios, says.

Through the masterful direction of Jade Castro, who helmed the big rom-com hit, My Big Love and the award-winning indie romance movie Endo, LSS also features the hit songs of twins Paolo Benjamin and Miguel Benjamin Guico the duo behind Ben&Ben, as well as band members Poch Barretto, Jam Villanueva, Agnes Reoma, Patricia Lasaten, Toni Munoz, Andrew de Pano and Keifer Cabugao.

Moreover, the screenplay of LSS and Sarah’s story arc inspired Ben&Ben to create and produce “Araw Araw,” which is also the film’s original theme song. LSS, likewise, influenced “Mitsa,” which is also included in Ben&Ben’s new album Limasawa Street.

Making beautiful music together are real-life sweethearts Gabbi Garcia and Khalil Ramos in “LSS.”

Last Sunday night, Shayne Sava and Kim de Leon were proclaimed the Ultimate Survivors of Starstruck 7.

Shayne won the Ultimate Female Survivor title over Lexi Gonzales while Kim was declared the Ultimate Male Survivor over Allen Ansay.

Kim de Leon and Shayne Sava are the newest “Starstruck” winners.

The winners of StarStruck 7 each received P1 million in cash, a GMA-7 management contract worth P5 million, and a house and lot.

The winners were determined based on the combined percentage rating of each finalist: 50 percent from the council’s scores and 50 percent from the public votes.

During the taped-as-live 14 September episode, StarStruck judges Heart Evangelista, Jose Manalo and Cherie Gil already locked in their scores after watching the final artista test of the final four.

The finalists for this season are expected to appear in GMA-7 shows in the coming days.
