Phnom Penh speaks Filipino

Forty staff members of the Secretariat-General of the Cambodian Senate at the Pannasastra University of Cambodia’s Institute of Foreign Language recently underwent a Philippine language training program in the capital city.

Filipino ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher Teodoro Ariel Publico conducted the training program for government staff.

ESL is an English language study program for non-native speakers who wish to learn to speak, read and write the universal language.

Aside from learning to speak the language, students enrolled in the program also get to be exposed to the culture of its origin country.

“This English language training is a manifestation of our continuing commitment to an ASEAN community that is socially cohesive and people-oriented,” Myca Fischer, Embassy Chargé d’Affaires, said.

Publico shared that he is committed to deliver English education to professionals and promote the “Tatak gurong Pinoy (mark of a world-class Filipino teacher).”

Organized by the Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh upon the request of the Cambodian Senate, the three-month training began on 6 August.

This is the third English language class arranged by the Embassy for the Secretariat-General.

The initial three-month course was held in May 2015 and had 18 participants while the second three-month module was offered in January 2016 and was participated in by 20 Senate staff.
