The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Philippine National Police should start the investigation both have been considering on allegations that human rights organizations are being used by drug lords to undermine the administration of President Rody Duterte and the war on drugs in light of the power and influence of the drug mafia in and out of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).

The drug lords practically owned the national penitentiary during the previous yellow regime and when Rody took over and initiated a war to end their domination, so did the vicious attacks start on the President from rights groups, which used manipulated data from entities associated with detained Sen. Leila de Lima, who was the suspected overlord of the NBP drugs trade.

Suggestions of a probe on the sinister links were floated earlier but the law enforcement agencies apparently have bigger problems to handle.

Now it is coming to a head, the frantic effort to oust Rody and, in the process, springing De Lima from prison is all about retaining the dominion of the drugs industry that existed for decades but was disrupted under the current regime.

The current Senate probe on the NBP scandal triggered by the anomalous freeing of life-termers, including many big-name drug traffickers through the Good Conduct Time Allowance Law showed the encompassing influence of narcotics dealers that they defy all measures thrown at them by the government. The common denominator is money that is apparently raining on rights groups just to keep going the assault on Rody on the international stage.

De Lima being at the forefront of employing rights groups against Rody is not far-fetched as she was the former head of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) during the term of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, in which time she would have built a network of associates in the field.

Groups such as the New York-based Amnesty International (AI) and Human Rights Watch (HRW), as well as local yellow news outfits, periodically release “investigative reports” on the drugs war, but which are only based on what the opponents of the President supply them.

Such reports always hide the sources of information. The Senate, for instance, held an inquiry into one of the reports, but since the sources can’t be pinpointed, the investigation went nowhere as the supposed rights crusaders refused to cooperate.

The probe handled by the Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights, thus, reported that Rody does not have a hand in the spate of vigilante killings and that the fabled “Davao Death Squad” (DDS) did not exist, which was what the evidence presented showed.

Rody is also listed by rights groups among the global strongmen that include United States President Donald Trump, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, all of whom AI said employ “divisive fear-mongering” that “has become a dangerous force in world affairs.”

“Whether it is Trump, Orban, Erdogan or Duterte, more and more politicians calling themselves anti-establishment are wielding a toxic agenda that hounds scapegoats and dehumanizes entire groups of people,” AI Secretary General Salil Shetty had said in a recent annual report.

In the report, it was stated that in the Philippines, “A wave of extrajudicial executions ensued after President Duterte promised to kill tens of thousands of people suspected of being involved in the drug trade.”

HRW, a US-based group, is also at the forefront of the demand to “immediately drop politically-motivated charges against one of the few lawmakers openly critical of President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs.” Of course, HRW was referring to De Lima who is facing multiple counts of drug-related offenses.

The peddled view is that “The prosecution of Sen. Leila de Lima is an act of political vindictiveness that debases the rule of law in the Philippines.”

HRW and AI also rely heavily on De Lima’s past investigations as CHR head into Duterte’s alleged involvement in extrajudicial killings that dates to the time when he was Davao City mayor.

De Lima then initiated a probe of Duterte’s alleged ties to the mythical DDS during his two-decade tenure as a local executive.

The scale of the campaign to destabilize the administration of Rody is apparently bigger than what it appears and apparently goes beyond the NBP racket and even its overlord De Lima.
