Revolutionizing ethnic weaves and fabrics

Philippine Fashion Revolution 2019 will also highlight modern Filipino fashion by showcasing local weaves incorporated in quintessential fabrics.

LOCAL weaves can be worn everyday and in any occasion by incorporating them into modern cuts and silhouttes.

To prove that the art of cloth weaving is still very much alive in the era of fast retail, Lynn Bentsen of Lynn Bentsen Talent and Fashion Academy brings to fashion fanatics the first-ever Philippine Fashion Revolution happening on 22 and 23 September at the SMX Convention Center, Aura, Taguig City.

Our indigenous tribes’ weaves and textiles will never be more flaunted and focused on than in this one-of-a-kind fashion extravaganza. Ninety-three fashion designers and over 120 models will exhibit how these intricately detailed fabrics can be worn in a modern way — a cocktail dress, office wear, accessories or even incorporated on a bridal gown.

“My advocacy is to promote Philippine fabric. Yung mga tela natin (Our fabrics) are beautiful whether they be from Luzon, Visayas or Mindanao. The Philippine Fashion Revolution not only promotes our local fabric but also helps the local farmers. To be honest, the fabrics are very expensive. Pag maraming demand ‘yung fabric, bababa ang presyo neto (If there is a high demand for the fabrics then it will be less expensive). Pag bumaba ang presyo, maraming farmers ang magkakaroon ng trabaho (If the fabrics are less expensive, then a lot of farmers will have jobs),” Bentsen shared.

Philippine Fashion Revolution 2019 will also highlight modern Filipino fashion by showcasing local weaves incorporated in quintessential fabrics.

“It’s about time we showcased different designers because we have a lot of great designers in the country pero hindi sila nabibigyan ng chance na ipakita ‘yung creation nila (they are not given the chance to show their creations). That is one of the reasons I produced the Philippine Fashion Revolution,” the fashionista said.

During the press conference last 29 August at the Lynn Bentsen Talent and Fashion Academy, guests witnessed the pieces that will be sported on the two-day fashion show.

There will be a total of five shows. On 22 September: Mindanao (5 p.m.) and Visayas (8:30 p.m.); and 23 September: Luzon (5:30 p.m.). There will also be the Catwalk Philippines (12:30 p.m.) and Renee Salud (8:30 p.m.).
