The Department of Agriculture confirmed that blood samples of 14 out of 20 pigs sent to the United Kingdom tested positive for African Swine Fever (ASF).
DA Secretary William Dar said Monday the blood samples were from pigs from Rizal and Bulacan where the animals fell ill and eventually died.
The DA has culled 7,416 pigs within the one-kilometer radius of affected areas― Rodriguez and Antipolo in Rizal and Guiguinto in Bulacan. The areas are now ASF-free.
“We continue to monitor, even beyond the 10-kilometer radius. So far, so good. No incidents,” Dar told reporters.
