Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) officials behind the selling of the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) must be punished with death penalty, according to dismissed BuCor director-general Nicanor Faeldon.

This comes after the statement of Yolanda Camelon — a wife of an inmate — that there is reallya “GCTA-for-sale” inside the country’s jail facility.

“’Yung gumagawa niyan mas masahol pa ‘yan sa heinous crimes. Kahit mallit na pera o malaki, yung hinihingan nila ng pera mga preso. They are the lowest members of the society tapos aapihin mo pa ng ganyan, dapat diyan bitayin ‘yang mga ganyang tao,” Faeldon said.

He said that heard the so-called GCTA-for-sale only during tonight’s Senate probe.

“I’m still crying inside my heart kasi yung preso ‘di dapat pagkakaperahan yan. Trabaho mo yan na protektahan sila. Trabaho mo na ayusin mo ang problema. My wife is crying every day, she said that people are hurting her dahil sa mga ganyang kalakaran,” Faeldon said.

To recall, President Rodrigo Duterte fired Faeldon on Wednesday after the controversies plaguing the BuCor were exposed.

The public was also enraged by the reported early release of former Calauan Mayor Antonio Sanchez, who was convicted of rape and murder of UP Los Baños students Eileen Sarmienta and Allan Gomez, due to the application of the GCTA law.

The Senate panel suspended its deliberation at 11:45 p.m. and will continue the probe on Monday at 10 a.m.
