Military ties between the Philippine Navy (PN) and the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN) are expected to be further boosted with the arrival of two vessels of the Korean Navy at Pier 15, South Harbor, Manila today.
LCdr. Maria Christina A. Roxas, acting director of the Naval Public Affairs Office, said the goodwill visit of ROKN ships Munmu the Great (DDH-II) and ROKS Hwacheon (AOE 59), a Cheonji-class fast combat support ship, will last up to Wednesday, 4 September.
Roxas said a welcome/arrival ceremony and a press conference will be conducted upon the arrival of the Korean Navy vessels at 9 a.m.
ROKN ship Munmu the Great (DDH-II) is a Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin-class destroyer in the South Korean Navy. It was named after the Korean king Munmu of Silla. Built by Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, South Korea, the ship was launched in April 2003 and commissioned on 30 September 2004.
The ship, which has a displacement of about 4,400 tons, has a length of 150 meters (492 feet and two inches) and has a speed of 30 knots.
