For three years now, the Philippine National Police has reversed the “trend” of higher crime rates in Metro Manila once the Ber months strike.
“It is now a myth,” said National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief P/Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar.
From 636 recorded crimes versus persons on September to December 2016, the number shrank to 474 in 2017 and 357 in 2018.
Crimes versus property also dipped from 899 in 2016 to 865 in 2017 and 720 last year.
Eleazar attributed the more peaceful last four months of the year to more active police interventions and increased vigilance of citizens.
