BAGUIO CITY—A senior accountancy student was awarded Most Outstanding Delegate in the Asia Youth International Model United Nations 2019 (AYIMUN) held at Putrajaya International Convention Center in Malaysia.

Michah Salvador, a student of Saint Mary’s University in Bayombong, Nueva Ecija, was one of 98 delegates in the 25-28 August conference that lured more than 35,000 worldwide.

Salvador, who hails from Lagawe, Ifugao, wrote on her application essay that the AYIMUN experience will equip her with experience to face the real world and enable her to gain different perspectives on global issues.

AYIMUN aims to engage young world leaders and get their views and stand on identified issues. This year’s theme is “Human Security Agenda in the Globalized World.” The delegates acted as diplomats of the country they were assigned to.

Salvador was given Denmark as part of the ASEAN-European Union Council which tackled the issue of the Rohingya crisis in Myanmar.

The Rohingya conflict is characterized by sectarian violence between the Rohingya Muslim and Rakhine Buddhist communities, attacks on Rohingya civilians by Myanmar’s security forces and armed clashes between insurgents and security forces in Buthidaung, Maungdaw and Rathedaung Townships, which border Bangladesh.
