Designing a space, more than anything, is a personal process. Every nook and cranny reflects a homeowner’s personality, preferences and style. Like any creative project, however, leaving a mark on a blank canvas starts with an inspiration.

At Shang by Design, a high-concept home exhibit, Shangri-La Plaza presented three curated vignettes that sought to get homeowners started on designing their own living space with the mall’s eclectic and impressive array of brands.

With Shang by Design, mall guests stepped into three imagined worlds, learning from each curator’s style decisions that they can apply when designing their own home. The exhibit featured design curators, who have put forward their own creative vision anchored on select themes.

Inspired by their travels in Morocco, jetsetting Philippine Tatler Homes editor Mia Borromeo and fashion icon Linda Ley brought guests through the breathtaking “Moroccan Nights,” an exotic set-up replete with ornate prints and designs. Drawing from the region’s landscape, the stylish pair combined shades of blue, white and green from the Mediterranean coast and touches of yellow, silver and orange, invoking the Sahara sands and African sunsets. The entire space was an explosion of vibrant colors with fabrics and pieces with geometric patterns and intricate textures from Rustan’s Department Store.

Janna Simpao, the editor-in-chief of the popular bridal site Bride and Breakfast, shared her fluid “His and Hers” theme with neutral shades of gray and white and pops of gold and bronze. She presented a minimalist approach, mixing masculine and feminine elements. For her decor, Simpao picked both vintage and contemporary metallic items, which provided a wonderful contrast between old and new.

Interior designer Rachel Wenger showcased a creative and refined way of combining textures and colors to create “Eclectic Layers” at home. She opted for a neutral base but played with various textures to create a depth in the overall design. Relying mostly on a minimalist and streamlined look that had interesting contrasts, she put together a comfy couch juxtaposed with a more structured marble table, as well as a bright mustard side chair and throw pillows against a navy-blue sofa.

To build Eclectic Layers, interior designer Rachelle Wenger made use of textures, art and flora.

The Shang by Design vignettes, arranged by Hubilla Design Group, feature design and furniture brands Rustan’s Department Store, Design Pod, La Sedia, Ego Italiano, Furniture Republic, Bo Concept, Restoration, Ashley Fine Furniture and Blims Fine Furniture.
