Yellow President Noynoy Aquino made a public appearance last Saturday urging Filipinos not to be fooled twice, saying the “evils” the EDSA People Power Revolt, which he claimed was eradicated in 1986, appears to be making a comeback.

“The EDSA Revolt has been dead for decades, mainly because his mother, himself and their yellows, destroyed the spirit of EDSA a long time ago.

Aquino appeared to try and revive his days as a powerful political figure by going back to the Marcos martial law regime and portraying himself, his mother Cory and, of course, their yellows as the saviors of democracy and the slayers of dictatorships. He claimed the country is returning to the Marcos years citing, as an example, the creation of the Department of Human Settlements (DHS) and the proposal to change the name of the country to Maharlika which was also proposed by former President and dictator Ferdinand Marcos.

Noynoy was hardly known for being brilliant, politically and otherwise. But truly, Noy, the creation of a DHS and a proposal to rename the country “Maharlika” are signs of an impending return of the country to a dictatorship?

These are certainly pretty shallow reasons of even an iota of the appearance of a return to the dictatorship!

There is hardly anything resembling a sign of a return to a dictatorship in a Duterte government reviving the DHS, simply because this department under the Marcos reign was chaired by Imelda Marcos. With all the squatters we have in this country and the impoverished conditions suffered by the poor, there is a need for such a department — something which the yellow President, then in power and position, hardly did to improve the lives of the unfortunate Filipinos.

But Noynoy used the EDSA Revolt theme to campaign for the Otso Diretso Senate bets, saying the fight fought in EDSA is not yet over.

“They (his Senate bets) can bring us to the straight path that we were once headed,” Noynoy was quoted as saying, as he addressed a small gathering of the usual yellows for the 33rd anniversary of the 1986 uprising at the People Power Monument in Quezon City.

What a laugh! Noynoy’s daang matuwid or straight path, that he said he once led, is a huge joke. Everybody knew it for what it really was: a way to disguise his and his yellow government’s corruption while ensuring a full-scale propaganda for his claimed “honesty.”

What honesty does he speak of when he and his money man, Butch Abad, engineered the smelly corrupt-ridden Disbursement Acceleration Program which Noynoy used to bribe congressmen and senators in return for their impeaching and convicting the then sitting Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Renato Corona. This was all because Corona and his court — except for then junior associate justice Lourdes Sereno — ordered the parceling of the Aquino-Cojuangco Hacienda Luisita to the tenants at a price the Aquino-Cojuangco clan found far too short from the billions the family wanted.

Sereno, a protector of Noynoy, of course, was quickly catapulted to the high seat by Noynoy — a seat she hardly deserved and one for which she was patently unqualified.

Sereno had to have her say, as she has been largely forgotten and she called on the youth to continue the cause of the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolt, saying this had been lost in the “tyranny and injustice” of recent years. Injustice? The injustice was the selective justice and yellow protectionism that reigned under Aquino 1 and 2.

She added: “The fight for democracy continues. We were not able to complete it and that behooves the younger generation to fight for the future. We must start with the conviction that what is wrong must be righted. So much is wrong with what is happening in society now.”

She is dead wrong. There was so much wrong in what was happening in society under the yellow regimes, of which she was part. But we did right one wrong — she was finally thrown out of the high seat through a legal and constitutional High Court ruling.

As for Noynoy citing the change of the country’s name to “Maharlika” as yet another sign of a looming dictatorship, he really has to shore up on the accurate history — and not the history being peddled by the yellows — especially as Marcos, during his dictatorial rule, could not even get that name changed!

But Noynoy has always been so out of political touch with the general public. The EDSA Revolt has been dead for decades, mainly because his mother, himself and their yellows, destroyed the spirit of EDSA a long time ago, what with them causing the destruction of the EDSA spirit with their vindictiveness and their greed.

EDSA was never a revolution because there was no change, no improvement in the lives of the Filipinos, no improvement in government competence and governance. Instead of change, Cory and her yellows, all credit grabbers, returned the country to the pre-martial law days, where cronyism and corruption reigned supreme. And who were back if not the politicians and their financiers, the old cronies, who quickly went abroad when martial law was declared and who quickly returned to power, influence and pelf almost immediately after the EDSA Revolt.

What then is there for Filipinos to celebrate and commemorate? The betrayal of EDSA? The days of EDSA when the spirit is dead and buried?
