Bottled water and other liquids are again allowed at Light Rail Transit 2 (LRT-2) and Mass Rail Transit 3 (MRT-3) trains and stations, the management of the LRT-2 and MRT-3 announced Wednesday.

The temporary lifting on the liquid ban follows as the LRT-2 management awaits the official rules and regulations to be released by the Office for Transportation Security, its management said.

However, strict security measures will still be implemented in all stations of the line running from Recto Avenue in Manila to Santolan in Pasig City.

The MRT-3 management said liquids such as bottled water, perfume, hand sanitizer, lotion, rubbing alcohol, among others, that have volume capacity of more than 100 milliliters (ml) may now be brought in by passengers inside train stations and coaches.

However, passengers of the train running along EDSA have to test these items by drinking the water, spraying perfume or using the lotion or rubbing alcohol in front of security personnel.

Passengers may retrieve their confiscated items within 14 days after which it will be disposed.

The MRT-3 management, earlier, allowed liquid items up to 100 ml inside stations.

Meanwhile, the management of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) said it would continue implementing its ban on bottled water and other drinks.

However, liquids such as breastmilk bags, feeding bottles, medicines, alcohol and perfume are allowed inside stations and train coaches, as long as these have undergone security inspection.

A ban on liquid items has been implemented in the Philippine National Railways, LRT and MRT stations and trains after the Philippine National Police placed Metro Manila on heightened alert status in response to the bombing of a church in Jolo, Sulu last month. ENM
