She thought he was out to steal her heart.
It turned out he was interested in swiping her cell phone.
A saleslady in Quezon City admitted to the police she was heartbroken upon realizing she was duped by the handsome man she initially thought was interested in her.
“He was handsome, clean and smartly-dressed,” said the saleslady who requested that her identity be withheld.
She said the man came to her stall in Fairview, Quezon City and stayed there for quite some time, occasionally smiling at her.
“And he’s really cute,” added the saleslady, apparently still under the spell of the man she hoped would be her Valentine’s Day date.
To her surprise, instead of giving her a love note, the man took out a solicitation letter and placed it in front of her.
“I couldn’t read it, because the letters were blurred. He told me the solicitation was meant to help troubled youth. He was persistent, but I told him I couldn’t give him anything,” the saleslady told the police.
After failing to convince her to give money, the man took back the solicitation letter and left immediately. A CCTV footage showed the man even did a victorious jump, as if he just won the heart of the girl of his dreams, before leaving on his motorcycle.
It was too late when the saleslady found out her cell phone was missing as she also recalled it was on the same spot where the cute guy placed the supposed solicitation letter.
“I was fooled by his looks. He did not really like me. It was my cellphone he was really interested in,” rued the lovelorn saleslady.
After learning the bitter lesson, she left this advice: “To those looking for your Valentine, do not be deceived by looks and sweet words.”
The unfortunate saleslady did not find her Funny Valentine. Instead, she met a phony Valentine.
