Pandacan hostage taker shot dead

A 26-year-old distraught man who took hostage his grandmother and cousin before attempting to burn their house, was shot dead by responding policemen Saturday morning in Pandacan, Manila.
Investigators said the suspect, Ranil Christian Baje, single and resident of 2408 Floresca St., even stabbed and seriously hurt two police officers who tried to pacify him during the stand-off before he was neutralized.
It was gathered that the incident started around 10 a.m. when Baje for no apparent reason tried to burn their house.
The commotion caught the attention of Chairman Rene Janda of Barangay 860, Zone 94 who was prompted to call the police.
The suspect, who was armed with a bladed weapon, then subsequently took hostage his grandmother and cousin after seeing the responding policemen from nearby Beata Police Station.
Inspectors Francis Guevarra and Genesis Aliling then approached the suspect and asked him to peacefully surrender.
