The head of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) paid yesterday a surprise visit to the Malate, Manila police station to ensure that no special treatment is being given to the nine suspects detained for indiscriminate firing.

NCRPO chief Director Guillermo Eleazar found no basis to the claim that the scions of allegedly influential families are being treated with kid’s glove at the Manila Police District (MPD) station 9.

Eleazar had harsh words for the suspects, especially the alleged shooter Maryjay Dominguez. Confiscated from them was a Glock 9mm pistol. The men were seen on closed circuit television footage firing the gun on M.H. Del Pilar Street two days ago.

“What came to your mind that you did that?” Eleazar asked Dominguez in Filipino. “You think you are above the law just because you are from rich families?”

One of those arrested is said to be the nephew of a politician who had meddled in the case so they can be set free.

But Eleazar found that the nine had undergone proper booking procedures and had already been subjected to inquest proceedings, thus their detention.

Those detained at MPD PS9 are Anjo Padilla, 27; Jeffrey Mendoza, 32; Luilius Dolante, 30; Dominguez, 29; Beucan Morillo, 23; Wendel de Guzman, 24; Marc Senez, 21, and two minors.

The suspects were in three cars when they broke the morning calm with one of them shooting the gun in the air.

The men were collared by MPD Special Weapons and Tactics policemen.
